Beneath the mountains I waited
and watched as decades passed
where a thousand years won‘t make a difference
when primates crawled from the trees
to conquer the steppes and seas
to make the continents their own and
climb towards evolution‘s throne
as moments turned to centuries
and aeons to dust
I stood here in silence
to watch your world rust
from hunters to settlers
from cities to states
but the apes never changed
ignorant of their own insignificance
pillaged this world for
their primitive ways
but in the end all the
knowledge they gained
was worth nothing
when only one flash of light
marked the end of their days
so now the silence returns, like the eternity before
the earth comes back to its primal state
and there‘s room for evolution once more
for I wander amidst the ashes
of your monuments and temples
the cycle of nature is rampant
this soil will not stay dormant
